Parliament Dissolved - 12th General Election Very Soon

The Star has reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has today announced that Parliament has been dissolved, thus paving the way for Malaysia's 12th general election.

According to Article 55(4) of the Federal Constitution, the general election must be held within 60 days from the dissolution of Parliament.

Upon the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat, the tenure of all MPs automatically ends, which means that they will stop enjoying the privileges, perks, and powers related to their office.

Until the next Parliament is convened, the country is run by a caretaker government.

The caretaker government will keep the government machinery running, and cannot make policy changes or formulate new legislation.
