The Best Nasi Lemak In The Klang Valley

Nasi Lemak is definately Malaysia's national dish. Nasi lemak to Malaysians are like fish and chips to the British, or hamburgers to Americans. Originally, nasi lemak was usually eaten for breakfast, but today, Malaysians eat nasi lemak at any time of day; breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner and supper.

Nasi lemak in Malay literally means "fatty rice" as the rice is cooked in coconut milk (santan), with pandan leaves and sometimes even with ginger or a stalk of lemon grass.

Traditionally, nasi lemak is served with cucumber slices, stir fried or steamed water convolvulus (kangkong), small dried anchovies (ikan bilis), small roasted peanuts, a hard boiled egg, and hot spicy chilli and shrimp paste sauce (sambal).

In recent years other other accompaniments such as chicken, cockle, cuttlefish, beef rendang or paru (beef lungs) have been made available.

In Malaysia, nasi lemak is available on almost every street corner and in almost every local restaurant.
