Apparently there were omens that predicted the earthquake that killed over 10,000 people in the Sichuan province, south-western China on Monday, 12th May. The omens were: a lake that had ‘vanished’, an army of frogs and butterflies that migrated, and distinctive cloud patterns.Many Chinese believe that these were the clues to some geological activity which were warning signs of the impending 7.9 magnitude earthquake in China.

On hindsight, anything, however marginally connected to a past event can be construed to be an omen. If those people were so smart at reading omens, why didn't they warn anyone prior to the earthquake happening ?
Some people believe that Buddha is punishing the China for its atrocities in Tibet.
