The police raided an illegal air rifle factory in Kampung Paya Jaras, Sungai Buloh, Selangor last week, reported a local news tabloid.
The factory was operating from a wooden house in that kampung for about a year.
Technically, an air rifle i.e air gun is different from a firearm. This is because it shoots metallic projectiles by means of compressed air. Most air rifles use metallic projectiles such as screws and ball barings as ammunition.
According to the news report, the illegally made air rifle, which was sold at RM300 each, uses up to 15 screws as ammunition for each shot and can hit a target as far as 50 meters.
Presumably an air rifle is classified as a firearm in Malaysia, as the culprits operating the illegal factory were charged under section 12 and section 33 of the Firearms Act 1960 for manufacturing and possessing firearms without a license. If found guilty, the accused can face up to 7 years jail or death.

Malaysian law is so stupid. Can't even tell the what is a a firearm. 15 screws i'll bet its only good for crows up to 10m. My homemade airgun shoots 4 inch nails and easily kills a cat at 10m. Although it leaked after 3 months :(
7 years jail or death>hang?.
No life... Toy gun also ban....
malaysia is the worse country ever...no bb gun can sell
cannot charge la bro coz its use compress air and not explosive to shoot the screw... why we who obey the law cant own a firearm for protection or hunting?
1.Firearm is when the ammunition explodes propelling projectile. Whereas air gun does not produce fire since the projectile is propelled by compressed air.
2. If the government is really serious, why not, pool those caught producing air guns, change their identities and train them in gunsmith, design and real production of firearms. So that we don't have to keep buying guns from other countries.
yes...i agree with punaawan.....byk rakyat malaysia yg berbakat membuat senjata atau barang2 lain...tapi bakat mereka tak diberi pluang untuk diserlah...mane tak nya...asal je berbakat masuk lokap..ishishish...tak payah nak beli senjata dari neraga luar....rakyat malaysia boleh buat smua...cuma perlu sdikit latihan..& sokongan
So...where to get the legal one..how to get...
cannot get then how...buy the under ground one lah dude...
or we make our own homemade air gun...made in malaysia..malaysia boleh..ha..ha
